2011

New year, new stuff. Had 6 posts drafted yet unfinished, deleted them. If they weren’t finished then, they won’t get finished now. Oh well.

I am not sure what it is with making resolutions because its a new year. I mean, if its a resolution that you really want to do, why can’t you start tomorrow? Would it have to wait until 2012? I think the average person breaks their resolution in the first month anyway. Probably the most popular one is to ‘eat healthier’, but I think thats a more general thing you should strive for at any point in the year. Start tomorrow.

I couldn’t make a resolution even if I tried. Maybe because in my head I feel that they are too open ended. I think small goals are more attainable. They are defined, solid. ‘I will lose 5 pounds’ - thats a goal, it has an end. You know when you are there. I like to think more in those terms. What can I do, and how can I know I did it?

So instead, I made myself a list of goals. Granted, some aren’t small, and some are out there. While some feel unlikely, none are impossible, and stranger things have happened. I believe that if its something I want bad enough, sooner or later, its going to happen. It’s all a matter of how much I put my mind to it and finding the right amount of time.

Goals for 2011

  • Stop trying to find the time to find the time. If you don’t have time, you simply don’t. Manage the time you have more efficiently.
  • Read 20 books. (I am already 1 down).
  • Upgrade my site to Wordpress 3.0.4 (already done)
  • Gain 10-15 pounds of muscle to make up for the 30 pounds of ‘bad’ weight I dropped.
  • Move beyond 30lb dumbbells.
  • Join a gym.
  • Start going to antique auctions.
  • Get over 2000 twitter followers.
  • Attend Drupalcon Chicago.
  • Redevelop CKYs website in Drupal 7.
  • Convert my current library of books into my iPad.
  • Learn 3 new languages and apply at least 1 of them in a project.
  • Actually take a day off.
  • Get something funny on Reddit.
  • Buy a piano. Learn to play, at any level.
  • Stop thinking about dumbasses.
  • Delete or close my Facebook account.
  • Buy a 1970s Les Paul.
  • Improve my cooking skills.
  • Meet Jon Hamm.
  • Meet Michael C. Hall.
  • Upgrade to iPhone 4.
  • Start riding my bike again.
  • Drive a Porsche. I don’t have to own it, just simply drive one, once.
  • See the following in concert (if possible):
    • Mastodon
    • Red Hot Chili Peppers
    • Metallica
    • Deftones
    • Foo Fighters
    • Mark Knopfler
    • Dave Matthews
    • Death Cab For Cutie
    • Eric Clapton
    • Pearl Jam
    • Stone Temple Pilots
    • Viking Skull
    • Mudvayne
    • Andy McKee
    • Jay-Z
  • Wash my jeep twice a month.
  • Get a beach tag.
  • Replace my PC with a 27” iMac.
  • Get up at 6:30, consistently. Coincides with the first goal.
  • Learn how to use my Canon T1i.
  • Learn photography.
  • Go to New York.
  • Go to Vegas.
  • Go to L.A.
  • Go to Texas.
  • Buy an acoustic guitar.
  • Record something.
  • Appear in more photos.
  • Spend 4th of July in DC.

  • Continue being badass.

I think this list is rather modest and while it seems like a lot it actually isn’t ambitious enough for a person like me- but it will get me started.
